CES System
What is CES (Secure Electronic Commerce)?
CES is a system to ensure Internet transactions promoted by Visa International, Mastercard, Microsoft, Netscape, among others. Its main goal is to provide greater security for both Internet users and online merchants by authenticating the buyer as the legitimate cardholder.
In practice, when paying with a VISA or MASTERCARD (secured), you will be asked, in addition to the card number and expiration date, for a personal key used exclusively for online purchases that identifies you, unequivocally, as the owner. This way, nobody can make a purchase online without knowing that key. You can recognize if the Secure Electronic Commerce protocol is enabled by the VISA (Verified by VISA) and Mastercard (Mastercard Secure Code) logos. In all operations, the system validates with the issuing bank of the card being used, requesting a key / PIN / signature / security code that the customer must have, and that together with the card number, expiration date, and the 3 digits on the back guarantee the security of the transaction. This key / PIN / signature / security code may have different names depending on the bank.
To simplify, we will refer to it as CES Security Code or CES Secure Electronic Commerce Code. Only customers who have a CES Code issued by their bank to make secure online payments will be able to pay by card. This is because we work with the system that provides the highest security, and requiring this CES Code for secure electronic commerce guarantees the customer 100% anti-fraud security.
Why implement the CES system in my store?
Advantages
SECURE SALE. The customer has been identified, the sale cannot be rejected.
Disadvantages
At the moment, not all users have their cards registered, so the sale cannot be completed. You must give them the option to complete the purchase manually or register their card. In the future, all transactions will be done through CES.
I am a customer and want to make purchases with a card, how do I activate it with CES?
If you do not have the CES code for secure online commerce on your card, you should know that you can request it for the same card you already have (there is no need to get another one) at your bank through a simple procedure. This procedure depends on each bank.
Instructions to obtain the CES code for secure online commerce from the main banks
The first thing to keep in mind is that the name given to this code may vary depending on the bank. It is a very simple process that some banks even allow you to complete online or by phone. It is always free of charge. By PayPal Cash on Delivery.
