The history of Veterinary Pharmacy
Passion for pharmacy for generations
The medical and pharmaceutical history of our family begins long ago, specifically in the year 1790. Our ancestor Juan Crisóstomo Capella y Asensi was born in the city of Valencia and moved to Gádor (province of Almería) to begin his activity as a doctor there. His son, Santiago Capella Oriola, was born in this Almeria town, and he began a priestly career, but never managed to practice there.
Santiago Capella Oriola managed to specialize as a professor of Latin and Greek at an academic institution in Almería. The young Santiago found his passion in the humanities where he developed his professional life. Other data of interest refer to the fact that he had a relationship with Emilio Castelar who served as president of the First Republic, and in turn maintained a direct relationship with Nicolás Salmerón Alonso, President of the Executive Branch of the First Republic. All of his friends lived in Alhama de Almería and this was his place of residence until the time of his death.
Past and present united
His son Santiago Capella Romero, studied pharmacy in Madrid, was such a good and sentimental person that he decided to live in Alhama de Almería and practice there because his father was buried in this Almería municipality.
Before, he had a pharmacy with Vivas-Pérez on Paseo del Príncipe in Almería. Don Santiago, as everyone knew him, was a very loved person in the town, respected by all his neighbors and also admired by the doctors of the region, who when they wanted a master formula to be well made, they entrusted it to him.
Between Spain and Mexico
Antonio Capella Bustos was the youngest of Santiago Capella Romero's children. He grew up in his father's pharmacy, seeing how sachets, syrups, suppositories, ointments were prepared... all according to the Royal Spanish Pharmacopoeia. Antonio decided to study Medicine and went to practice at the Jiménez Diaz Foundation in Madrid, later he moved to Mexico where he was Director of the Spanish Sanatorium of Mexico and later Professor of Microbiology and Bacteriology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Santiago Capella, inspiration of the current Veterinary Pharmacy
Don Santiago Capella Romero was my great-grandfather. As a child I liked to look at his books in his old store where the formulas he prepared and the tools he used to prepare them were detailed. He was the one who inspired me to study a Bachelor of Pharmacy.
I dedicate this memory to him.
